Richland students make feeders for Scovill Zoo camels
DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — In Decatur, a pair of camels at Scovill Zoo will have an easier time eating. It’s all thanks to Richland Community College students.
Welding students made two new brow holders for the animals. The Y-shaped poles help camels eat branches at eye-level. The zoo says the new ones are metal, which should help feed them for years to come.

“I think it’s great,” said Zoo Director Heather Purdeu. “I think this was something fun for them to kind of work on. We’re hoping to get these in within the next week or so, and then, you know, hopefully the students will be able to come out and see them actually in use with the camels eating the brows off of them and they can see what they created. It helped us out a lot.”
She said the zoo and college hope to collaborate on more projects moving forward.
