Two Naugatuck police officers fired their guns during an officer-involved shooting on Thursday that sent one person to the hospital.

Officers at 9:15 a.m. responded to Baummer’s Pond after receiving the report of a man armed with a knife, which led to a confrontation, according to the Naugatuck Police Department.

During the incident, two police officers fired their guns, police said.

According to police, the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment where his condition remains unclear. He has not been identified.

In a statement, police also said the officers involved received medical attention “and are safe.” Neither officer has been identified.

The shooting is being investigated by the Connecticut Office of Inspector General with assistance of the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad.
