Redding Record Searchlight transitioning to postal delivery

Starting June 24, the U.S. Postal Service will begin delivering the Redding Record Searchlight to optimize resources amidst increasing digital readership demand.

Newspapers will arrive at subscribers' homes on the day of publication. For example, the Tuesday edition of the newspaper will arrive via U.S. mail on Tuesday. The Sunday Record Searchlight's weekend edition will arrive on Saturday.

The daily newspaper will also continue to be available at retail outlets.

“While our delivery method is changing, we are keeping our same commitment to bringing our readers and the community important local news and feature stories,” said Local Managing Editor Michele Chandler.

The round-the-clock online news cycle has made digital products the first choice for breaking-news and print subscribers are increasingly engaging digitally.

As such, the Record Searchlight will be putting renewed emphasis on the printed newspaper as a place readers can dive into local news with more impact and context, feel-good community features, sports analysis and commentary — the stories you can’t get anywhere else.

Like many other newspaper publishers, Gannett Co. Inc., which operates more than 200 daily local newspapers including the Record Searchlight, has already successfully introduced the approach in dozens of markets across the country and is expanding the initiative.

“For many years now, the printed newspaper has served as a culmination of the stories that will become our collective history, while our websites and mobile apps deliver the news of the day,” said Michael A. Anastasi, vice president of local news for Gannett.

“We know that by the time our informed readers pick up the paper, they know what happened yesterday. The print newspaper should provide additional context, to help readers better understand their community and the world around them.”

Readers can also visit www.redding.com to access the eNewspaper, a digital replica of the newspaper at redding.com/enewspaper.com.

Subscribers will receive letters in the mail before the delivery change begins. The notifications will also include instructions on accessing digital products.
