Record high number of travelers expected at LAX and across U.S. this Memorial Day

This Memorial Day weekend, travel is expected to hit an almost 20-year high. AAA is projecting it to be very busy on the roads and in the skies. "It's a near record. We're looking at close to 44 million people are going to be traveling over the next few days," AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said. That's expected to be especially true for those traveling by car. "This little slice of the travel pie is actually an all-time record. We've never seen 38.4 million people hit the road for Memorial Day Weekend," Gross said. Airlines have prepared for the holiday weekend rush by adding 1 million seats to domestic routes and 300,000 to international flights, Hopper data indicated. The travel service expects LAX to be the fifth-busiest airport in the United States on Memorial Day weekend. KTLA's Chris Wolfe reports on May 24, 2024.
