READ: Candidate list for Champaign School District Board of Education’s vacant seats
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — There are 26 candidates up for the two empty spots on Champaign’s Unit 4 School District board.
Two previous members of the school board, Jamar Brown and Mark Theis, resigned last month. The district invited residents to apply and received more than two dozen applicants.

Monday was the last day the district was accepting applications. WCIA obtained a list of all of the candidates. Some names on the list were under review.

One candidate told WCIA they received an email Tuesday afternoon saying that they will hear by Friday about a potential interview at the Board of Education’s special meeting on April 9.
According to the Champaign School District website, interviews will be held in open session on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
The Champaign Community Unit School District 4 policy manual states that following the interviews with the candidates, vacancies will be filled by a vote during an open meeting of the Board before the 60th day of vacancy. The appointment will be announced to the District staff and community.
