Raleigh County Commission to hold public hearing on proposed annexation

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Raleigh County Commission is set to vote later this month on whether two parcels in the Mount Hope area will be annexed into Raleigh County.

The goal of the annexation is to supply water to acreage in the area of the Crossroads Mall.

Raleigh County Commissioners said on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 that annexation is the first step.

Afterwards, they said, a private developer is set to work with the City of Mount Hope to bring the infrastructure across U.S. Route 19.

“They’re wanting to run their water lines up to these two parcels of land, so we’ll see what the public wants to do. It’s a regional thing, so we’ll have water up [US Route 19],” noted Raleigh County Commission President David Tolliver.

President Tolliver said the planned development was facilitated through New River Gorge Regional Development Authority (NRGRDA).

The public hearing is May 21, 2024 during the regular commission meeting and prior to commissioners’ vote on the annexation proposal.
