QCA adaptive veterans team takes to the courts

A partnership between the Quad Cities Veterans Outreach Center and the QCA Adaptive Sports Association will bring the first veterans basketball team to the area.

The QCA Adaptive Sports Association brings together people from all backgrounds. Former Davenport firefighter Bob Juarez decided to join an adaptive sports team after an injury in 2008 left him paralyzed. “I was playing in a wheelchair basketball team here locally and after that, myself and a couple of other individuals started QCA adaptive sports,” Juarez said.

The QCA adaptive sports team plays basketball, tennis and pickleball and recently partnered with Quad Cities Veterans Outreach Center to start a basketball team called “the Rolling Warriors.” Juarez said while the team is targeted towards veterans anyone interested can join.

Kevin Mckee is a three-time gold medal Paralympian for Team USA and enjoys making new connections. “I have a lot of my best friends through adaptive sports and for me, it’s just a way to get out there and kind of feel normal,” Mckee said.

The QCA Adaptive Sports Association practices once a week at the Quad Cities Veterans Outreach Center. For more information, click here.
