According to Berlin, Westmont police responded to reports of a disturbance at a home along Naperville Road just after 11:45 p.m.

After officers arrived on the scene, a woman who lives inside the home told police that she was alone in her bedroom when she heard a noise in the kitchen.

Police say she went to investigate the sounds and found that the back door of her home was open and her purse had been ransacked. Authorities say she also found that her car, a 2022 Hyundai Tuscon, was missing from the garage.

According to police, following an investigation, it was determined that Fleming had allegedly managed to manipulate a windowpane on the back door, which then allowed him to unlock the door and enter the home.

Fleming then allegedly stole the victim’s debit and credit cards from her purse and then took her car keys and garage door opener from a bowl in the living room, police said.

Authorities say Fleming then allegedly opened the garage door and stole the woman’s car.

Hinsdale police later caught up with Fleming after an officer spotted the stolen vehicle on Burlington Avenue.

Authorities initiated a traffic stop and took Fleming into custody.

“Violating the safety and security that a home provides to us all can not only have a devastating effect on the victim but can also have a crippling effect on the entire community as residents worry that they may be next,” Berlin said in a news release.

On Tuesday, Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s motion to detain Fleming pre-trial.

Fleming is set to appear in court for arraignment on April 22.
