PPD: Three minors arrested, one for aiding in escape

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) said three minors were taken into custody on Saturday, April 27 after an incident where one girl tried to help a boy escape from police custody.

According to PPD, on Saturday at around 4 p.m. officers were called to a family disturbance involving three minors. When police contacted the family they learned the three minors had left the home on foot.

Police found the minors in the 1400 block of East 2nd Street off near North Monument Avenue, when officers tried to make contact with the minors they allegedly attempted to walk away. PPD said two of the minors, a boy and a girl had warrants out for their arrest. While officers attempted to detain the girl with a warrant the boy and other girl tried to free her so she could escape.

The minor boy was handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle allowing officers to focus on the minor girl. According to PPD, while officers were focused on the girl, the second girl allegedly ran to the police vehicle and opened the rear door before officers could stop her.

PPD said the girl with a warrant was eventually placed into custody. The guardians of the two girls arrived on the scene and encouraged officers to follow through with charges against the minors. The boy’s guardian was notified and spoke to him through a phone call.

The body and girl were screened into the Pueblo Youth Center. The second girl was screened for aiding in the escape of the other two but PPD said not approved for booking and was released.
