This popular Topeka restaurant moved a mile down the road after 40 years at previous site

After 40 years at 1618 S.W. Washburn Ave. in Topeka, restaurant Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant has relocated to a new location.

Tortilla Jack's recently opened its doors at 821 S.W. 21st St.

General manager Nate Burke said the new location will allow for more opportunities for the restaurant.

"Primarily just the drive-through, the visibility," Burke said. "That school shopping center is closed down, so we were kind of a hidden gem behind back behind there, so this gives us a little bit more of an opportunity."

What else is new at the relocated Tortilla Jack's Mexican Restaurant?

In addition to a new drive-through option for customers, shakes and frosties are now available on the menu.

"Other than that, the menus the same, the recipes are the same," Burke said.

Classic menu items include shell and soft tacos, taco burger, Sanchos, gran-burritos and more.

The new space allows for a slight larger kitchen for cooks, and outdoor dining as well.

Faith Rogers, who works at Tortilla Jack's, said the new location is better.

"There's a lot more room. That's a big thing because our old location did not have this much room," Rogers said. "It's nice. It's a lot more popular. It's a main street, so there's a lot more people in and out."

What are the new business hours at the new Tortilla Jack's?

Business hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. That's the same as the previous location.

Burke said hours will sometimes adjust based on events happening in the neighborhood, such as at Washburn University and Stormont Vail Events Center.
