Poll workers help to ensure honorable functioning of democracy

Recently, the Wayne County Board of Elections certified the results of the March primaries, showing 100% accuracy. They do a fabulous job of ensuring our elections are fair, reliable and honest.

I’ve been a poll worker for over two years. Our poll workers represent a variety of political views, but we all work together to ensure just elections. Recently, I was working with a young poll worker. I asked him why he was doing this. He said he wanted a way to serve his country.

You may not fully appreciate what our poll workers do. In addition to going through careful training, the workers are at the polling sites from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on election days. It is a long day, but we get plenty of breaks, and it is a satisfying way of serving our country.

If you are interested in being a poll worker contact the Wayne County Board of Elections at 330-287-5480. They can always use more. Ensuring the honorable functioning of our precious democracy makes it all worthwhile.
