Police: Man shot, crashes car in Takoma Park

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — Police in Takoma Park said a man walked from the scene of a crash on Sunday night, only to collapse near an old hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Just before 8 p.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the area of Maple Ave. and Sligo Creek Parkway for the report of a personal injury collision. When officers got there, they found a car disabled from the crash, but no one was inside.

Officers later found the driver, who had walked from the scene of the crash and collapsed near the old Washington Adventist Hospital. He had a gunshot wound to his leg.

Witnesses told police that a passenger in the front seat also fled the scene. Park Police and Montgomery County police both searched for the passenger but could not find anyone.

The driver was taken to a hospital and is now in stable condition, police said in a press release.

Investigators believe a shooting happened at a different location and the driver and passenger both drove to the scene where the collision took place.
