Police: 1 injured in Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man was injured in a shooting Friday afternoon in the area of Jordan Drive and Roxbury Terrace in Hampton, police said.

A call for gunshots fired in the area of Jordan Drive and Roxbury Terrace came in around 2:03 p.m., and when officers were in that area investigating, a second call came in in reference to a walk-in gunshot victim at Sentara CarePlex, police said.

That victim is being treated for life-threatening injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was in the area of Jordan Drive and Roxbury Terrace when police said an unknown suspect began shooting toward him. The victim shot back, according to police, and was injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Police said there were no other reported injured or property damage from the incident, and they said they have no suspect information at this time. Police also said the motive and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
