New playground coming to Coves Park in Bensalem. What to expect

A new playground is being installed in the Coves Park in Bensalem, the first of several such projects that will be undertaken by the township Department of Parks and Recreation.

The installation process, however, forced the temporary closure of the playground area off Winward Lane in a neighborhood off Bensalem Boulevard.

"The Coves playground is being updated to a more modern play area. This is the first of many upgrades we are making to our neighborhood playgrounds," said Kyle Pennypacker, director of Bensalem's parks and recreation department. "Two other units will be replaced this year, with a plan to replace many more over the next five years."

New Coves playground has amenities for several age groups

Penneypacker said the new Coves playground, once complete, will have play areas for a range of ages.

"There are multiple climbing ropes/ladders along with two levels of slides and multi-level platforms," Pennypacker said. "There are two baby swings, three regular swings, and a multi-age accessible swing chair as well.

"The large structure is for children 5-12, and there is also a smaller unit for children 2-5 years old off to one side," Pennypacker added. "Separating the structures is a rocking horse and spinner."

When will the new Coves playground reopen?

Penneypacker said the parks and recreation department was unsure exactly when the playground would reopen, but said typical playground installations do not take long.

"I unfortunately cannot give you a re-open date as there are many variables that affect our timeline," Pennypacker said. "However I can tell you we are talking weeks, not months.

"The tear-out will be completed by Friday, with the new installation beginning Monday, April 29."
