Planning commission to consider Dalton annexation requests

Apr. 20—City of Dalton officials are looking to annex two properties already owned by the city, including Haig Mill Lake Park.

The Dalton-Varnell-Whitfield County Planning Commission will consider those requests and others when it meets on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners meeting room of the county courthouse, 205 N. Selvidge St. in Dalton. The meeting will be livestreamed on the county's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The planning commission makes recommendations to the city councils of Dalton and Varnell and the county commissioners.

Dalton's requests:

Other requests:

—A request by Beverly Hawkins to rezone from general commercial to rural residential 0.96 of an acre at 2511 Old Chatsworth Highway, Dalton. The staff report said the site currently has a single-family, detached dwelling on it. The rezoning would bring the use into conformity with the zoning.
