Pinpoint Weather: Summer-like Thursday, cold front ahead

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — More sunshine is slated for Thursday with summer-like conditions in the forecast. A cold front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday.

Drier weather is expected on Thursday, although a couple of stray mountain rain showers cannot be completely ruled out during the morning. Partly to mostly sunny skies will be overhead as afternoon temperatures rise into the warm upper 70s and 80s. Winds may be a bit breezy with gusts as high as 25 mph.

A cold front will approach Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday, bringing some hit-or-miss showers and storms. There is a greater chance for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms west of the Blue Ridge. The threat of severe weather will mostly stay to our south. The additional cloud cover on Friday will lead to slightly cooler temperatures. Highs will be in the 70s.

The cold front will stall just south of the region late Friday into Saturday. A few morning rain showers are possible for the start of the weekend. Otherwise, Saturday looks mostly dry with variably cloudy skies overhead. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 40s and 50s before warming up into the 60s and 70s by the afternoon.

Sunday will be variably cloudy with highs in the noticeably cooler upper 50s and 60s. Some rain showers are possible during the afternoon and evening.

While isolated showers cannot be ruled out for Monday and Tuesday, mostly dry weather will return to the region with a mix of sun and clouds overhead. Monday will be cool with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s. Tuesday will be slightly milder with afternoon temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s.
