Pinpoint Weather: Cool end to the week, warm-up ahead

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A wedge setup will keep Southwest and Central Virginia cooler and cloudier on Friday. However, the cooldown will be short-lived as a summer warm-up is expected by the end of April.

For Friday, partly to mostly cloudy skies will be overhead. Some patchy drizzle and stray rain showers cannot be ruled out, but much of the area will stay mostly dry. Afternoon highs will be in the cooler lower and middle 60s. During the overnight hours, a nearby warm front may throw isolated rain showers into the region.

The wedge will stay in place on Saturday. The day will be mostly cloudy with a few hit-or-miss rain showers possible. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the cooler-than-average middle and upper 60s.

Sunday looks to be the best day for the weekend. Expect mostly dry conditions with a mix of sun and clouds overhead. A couple of mountain rain showers are possible. Warm southerly flow will allow temperatures to rise into the 70s and lower 80s by the afternoon.

Southwest and Central Virginia will wrap up April on a warm note. For Monday and Tuesday, afternoon temperatures will warm up to the June-like 80s. Monday will be mostly dry. However, some showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday as a cold front moves through.
