Pick Up the Pocono collects over 40k bags of trash

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau (PMVB) has announced over 40,000 bags of trash were collected through overall litter efforts.

According to a press release, over 500 volunteers spread out through 40 locations, covering 169 miles of roadways and collecting 1,041 bags of trash.

As mentioned in the release, individuals and families, 25 businesses, organizations, church groups, Pocono resorts, and school districts organized clean-ups in cooperation with Pick Up the Poconos.

Carpentry and cabinetmaking for a cause

Officials explained in the release that the PVMB Pick Up the Pocono campaign includes:

  • Pocono 3C employs those who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to clean up roads weekly.

  • Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. the PMVB contracts with the company to clean Interstate 80 & 380 and Route 33 along with highway/ramps at least six times a year.

  • Pick Up the Pocono is a volunteer-led clean-up organized by the PVMB through the four-county region.
