PHOTOS: Kids ages 12, 13, caught in car theft attempt

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — A 13-year-old girl could be facing felony charges after allegedly attempting to steal a car, according to South Euclid police.

Her 12-year-old sister as well as a 12-year-old boy could also be charged, according to a Thursday Facebook post by the police department.

A woman living along Maywood Road told police dispatchers she saw someone break out the window of her Kia on March 21.

She said the suspect was with two other people, and she gave their descriptions.

Officers found the suspects near the intersection of Maywood and Rainbow roads, but the suspects fled when officers turned on their emergency lights, according to the post.

Officers chased the suspects on foot to a nearby wooded area, where they were apprehended. Investigators also found a bag of screwdrivers.

They found the car’s steering column had been peeled and its ignition damaged, according to the release.

Police took suspect who broke the window, a 13-year-old girl from South Euclid, back to police headquarters on felony charges of attempted theft of a car and possessing criminal tools, which are now under review by the county juvenile court.

A misdemeanor charge is pending for the girl’s 12-year-old sister.

Charges are also pending for the third suspect, a 12-year-old boy from Lyndhurst, according to the release.
