UPDATE: El Paso Water employee dies at wastewater plant

UPDATED: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One person is dead after becoming trapped in a “confined space” at the Bustamante Wastewater Plant in El Paso’s Lower Valley on Friday, April 26.

Both the El Paso Police and Fire departments confirmed the fatality. The police said that the death is being investigated but it does not appear to involve foul play.

The person who died has now been confirmed to be an El Paso Water employee.

El Paso Fire Department’s Special Rescue Crews responded to reports of an individual trapped in a confined space around 1 p.m. Friday at 10001 Southside Dr.

The identity of the person who died has not been released.

A total of 26 firefighters responded to the incident.

El Paso Water issued the following statement:

“We are saddened to report that one of our employees passed away Friday afternoon at the
Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant in Southeast El Paso. We appreciate the El Paso Fire
Department’s rapid response to the incident. An investigation is underway. The employee was a
valued member of the Bustamante plant team. Our heart goes out to the employee’s family during this difficult time.”
