Person flown to burn unit following outbuilding fire in Sullivan County

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — One person was flown to a burn unit following a structure fire in Sullivan County on Sunday afternoon.

According to East Sullivan County Fire Department Assistant Chief Matt Kegley, the structure fire took place on Emmett Road off Highway 421, and the call to respond came in at 12:08 p.m.

According to Kegley, responders arrived to find a small outbuilding that was fully engulfed. Crews worked to extinguish the fire, according to Kegley. One person did sustain burns, and Kegley said they were transported via helicopter to a nearby burn unit.

Kegley told News Channel 11 that Highway 421 was temporarily shut down while crews worked and the helicopter made its stop. The cause of the fire had not yet been determined, and Kegley said the extent of the victim’s injuries was not available.

Kegley said 421 Area Emergency Services was the primary responding agency and several others assisted, including the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and EMS.

There will be no further investigation into this fire, according to Kegley.
