Pedestrian struck and injured by a train in downtown Biloxi. Here’s what we know

A person was hit by a train Monday in Biloxi while walking on the railroad tracks.
Biloxi Police responded to the area of Benachi Avenue around 3 p.m. and found the victim alert and with injuries that were not life threatening.
Witnesses reported seeing the person walking on the tracks, as the trained neared while signaling. The person later appeared to make an attempt to clear the tracks, the police report said, but was unable to do so in time, and was struck by the train.
Pafford Emergency Services responded and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment.
The city sent a text alert saying the train, which was eastbound, was stopped on the tracks. Crossings from Porter Avenue near the Biloxi Lighthouse to Hopkins Boulevard, near the I-110 overpass were closed.
At 4:30 p.m. the train was moving and the crossings were open.
