Pedestrian killed on Highway 58 Saturday afternoon

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One man is dead after a traffic collision in southeast Bakersfield Saturday.

On April 27, a pedestrian running southbound across lanes of eastbound Highway 58, was struck and killed by a vehicle at 1:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials investigation revealed the 24-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was slowing to take the Union Avenue off-ramp. The pedestrian continued running southbound across the right shoulder of east bound Highway 58, and entered the off-ramp directly into the path of the Honda.

The front of the Honda struck the pedestrian. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to CHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
