Peace Center announces 2024-2025 Broadway Series; Greenville to see $50 million in impact

The Peace Center announced its 2024-2025 Broadway season on Wednesday evening which will bring eight new touring productions and highly anticipated returning box office hits.

The productions are expected to generate nearly $50 million in economic impact to Greenville, according to a study by the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.

Returning performances highlighted in the Peace Center's upcoming Broadway season include popular box office shows Disney's The Lion King in September 2024 and Hamilton in February 2025.

"The titles we have curated are among the most popular, creative, and award-winning shows on Broadway today," said Megan Riegel, president and CEO of the Peace Center. "The convenience of experiencing such exceptional entertainment right here at home is a tremendous value to our community."

The full Broadway season will last 14 weeks and is sponsored by Gibbs Cancer Center.

Economic impact of Broadway Series at Peace Center

According to a 2022 study, the Peace Center's economic impact has exceeded more than $1 billion for Greenville County and the state of South Carolina since opening in 1990.

The Broadway Series annually brings in a total financial economic impact of $46 million to Greenville, and more than $51 million to South Carolina.

Greenville County annually receives $80 million in economic impact from all Peace Center events with the Broadway Series making up more than half of the financial impact.

"I am thankful for the community leaders who had the early vision for the Peace Center campus and for the current leaders, staff and volunteers who continue bringing amazing shows and concerts to Greenville," said Liz Seaman, Greenville County council member. "We are fortunate to such an amazing asset that has spurred additional investment in our downtown and surrounding areas."

The Peace Center expects 400,000 people to fill its concert halls in 2024 through 2025, and by 2029, estimates its annual attendance to grow to 500,000 visitors after repurposing three buildings on its campus for a music club, an "intimate listening room," a podcast and recording studio, and an artist dorm known as A Music Project which will run along the east side of the Peace Center amphitheater.

When The Peace Center upgrades its six-acre property into the 10-venue entertainment campus, the economic impact of those upgrades alongside the Broadway Series and other programming could increase the economic impact by $6 million, according to the Peace Center's study.
