PD: Man arrested for fleeing police, having illegal gun

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man in Lackawanna County has been arrested after harassing a woman and breaking into her home.

32-year-old Jose Montalvo is being charged with evading arrest, carrying a firearm without a license, and tampering with evidence among others.

Scranton police stated officers responded to reports of a man being verbally aggressive and carrying a firearm outside a home in the 2900 block of Marvine Avenue.

Police say they caught up with Montalvo and attempted to detain him in connection to the active investigation. While being placed in handcuffs Montalvo fled on foot, and that’s when police say they saw him throw a bag into the creek, as stated in the affidavit.

Montalvo was arrested and officers said they retrieved the bag which contained a handgun, marijuana, and ammo.

A preliminary hearing is set for June.
