Patterson man arrested in Terrebonne Parish on attempted murder charges of police officer

GIBSON, La. (KLFY) – A Patterson man was arrested in Terrebonne Parish on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder of a police officer.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of Marina Drive, in Gibson, just before 10:30 p.m. on March 17. On arrival, the caller told deputies that an unknown white man threatened him with a piece of wood after the man was seen using illegal drugs in the area. The caller gave deputies a description of the vehicle used by the man. Deputies also attempted to make contact with the occupants of a nearby camper which was believed to be linked to the man, but were unsuccessful.

Deputies continued to patrol the area over the next few days. On March 22, they found a vehicle matching the vehicle description around 1 a.m. During the investigation a deputy contacted a man who was identified as Justin Ross Sons, 33 of Patterson. While speaking with Sons, he attempted to leave the area in a vehicle.  The deputy attempted to stop Sons from driving away in the vehicle. Sons allegedly drove to force the deputy off of the car, until he fell to the ground. Sons then fled the area at a high rate of speed and the deputy received injuries to his lower body.

TPSO obtained arrest warrants for Justin Ross Sons for the charges of attempted first degree murder of a police officer and resisting an officer by force or violence. Authorities learned that Sons already had an outstanding warrant for his arrest through the 17th Judicial District Court.

An investigation indicated Sons returned to Marina Drive. Authorities found Sons exiting a camper residence. When he saw deputies, Sons jumped into a nearby waterway in an attempt to flea.

Deputies were able to arrest Sons on charges, as well as the outstanding warrants. Sons remains jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, on a $814,000 bond.

The deputy injured is considered to be in stable condition and is recovering from the injuries sustained in the disturbance.
