Parents of 13-year-old shooting suspect charged in MS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The parents of a Clarksdale, Mississippi 13-year-old accused of accidentally killing another teenager in a shooting have been charged, the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office says.

Lashaner Marshall, 49, is charged with contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a minor.

Gill Marshall Sr., 65, is charged with contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a minor, and with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Coahoma County deputies responded to a call at Amber Cove in Lyon, Mississippi on March 15. Deputies discovered a 13-year-old who had been shot once in the upper torso.

Deputies learned that a 13-year-old and the victim were playing with a handgun. At some point, the second juvenile accidentally pulled the trigger and shot the victim.

The 13-year-old suspect has been charged as an adult with manslaughter culpable negligence.

The victim was a student at Coahoma County Junior High School, the sheriff’s office said.
