Columbus City Council response to Gaza pathetic

According to Columbus City Council, Israel isn't committing genocide against Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.

For the last 5 months, Columbus residents from all walks of life (Christian, Jews, Muslims, Latinos, black, white and Asians) were lobbying city council to pass a ceasefire resolution like many other major US cities did, such as NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Akron.

With over 30,000 dead in Gaza including 9,000 women and 12,000 children, Columbus City Council's refusal to even consider a ceasefire is mind-boggling. There are another 17,000 children in Gaza whom Israel has turned into an orphanage and city council does not have the courage to address it.

That is pathetic!

Mahmoud El-Yousseph: : Fox News host has 'no moral authority' to lecture Kenyans about women's rights

Does Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin feel saving Palestinian lives is anti-Semitic?

Palestinians are being starved to death and bombed into smithereens in Gaza in front of our eyes on a daily basis. Sadly, all of this is done with our tax dollars and with full approval and support from Columbus City Council, state, and federal officials, all the way to the president of the United States.

Hardin promotes himself as an advocate of the city and its residents but when push comes to shove, he tells his constituents, pay your taxes and shut up!

Bad dog's can't help themself

Have you ever walked in on your dog only to discover your living room looks like a blizzard just passed through? What happened was the pup got a hold of a pillow and just ripped it to shreds.

It starts with a small tear but then the more they chew on it the more worked up they get until they just can't control themselves any longer.

That's Donald Trump.

At a rally last weekend in Ohio, Trump starts off pledging to impose tariffs on foreign-made cars and before you know it, he's claiming there would be a "bloodbath" if he is not re-elected and that some migrants accused of crimes are "not people."

He just can't help himself.

Why doesn't Trump ask his buddy in Moscow?

Poor rich man ex-President Donald Trump.

He brags of a multiple billion-dollar net worth and business acuity but has failed in businesses countless times and failed to pay his debts through bankruptcy manipulation.

Finally, his past trespasses are strangling him with debts he perhaps will not so easily escape.

Has he approached his fellow billionaires for a loan? Who is stupid enough to lend Trump hundreds of millions of dollars he will later dismiss as “not my problem"?

Trump should approach his good buddy Russian President Vladimir Putin by promising him American support for Putin’s campaign against Ukraine.

Trump could pay his debts and probably pocket a few million dollars at the expense of innocent Ukrainians he cares nothing for.

Pastor's column not about white guilt, shame or repentance

Re "Pastor shouldn't pass on white guilt," March 16 letter to the editor:  Rev. Ralph Salzgaber writes, "Pastor Eric Tucker should get over his 'woke' guilt and for God’s sake please don’t pass it on to his son or his parishioners."

I think Eric Tucker's point is a need for a realization of the implied and still very real privilege of being 'white' (and male). It's not "guilt, shame or repentance."

It's an awareness and understanding of the world around him.

Rev. Ralph Salzgaber: 'Jesus loves and saves white people too.' Father wrong to pass on white guilt

Because, "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, I set aside childish ways."

I'm not a child now, and part of growing up was coming to an understanding that my reality was not shared by many people of color (and women). We could do better, we can be better, but only if our worldview is realistic and honest.

As Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" says, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb in his skin and walk around in it."

Amazing opportunity will lead to more inclusive economy

Re "President Biden and Intel CEO announce billions in investment for Ohio, U.S. (online)," March 20: Congratulations to all the political, business and nonprofit leaders who worked tirelessly to secure this amazing opportunity.

Ohio can now not only grow the height and breadth of its economy, but we have a once in a lifetime chance to expand the breadth and depth of our prosperity as well.

A more inclusive economy will powerfully leverage the CHIPS investment, creating high wage careers and wealth-building options for more people of color and those in underserved communities—and this, in turn, will contribute to everyone’s shared prosperity.

State can learn from school bus seat belt pilot programs

The Lorain County Commissioners unanimously passed Resolution 24-176 that supports having lap-shoulder seat belts in school buses to protect children March 12.

Further, the commissioners urged all Lorain County School Districts and governmental entities to establish seat belt installation pilot programs. This approach was also used in the city of Lorain and Vermilion, who encouraged their respective school districts to establish pilot programs that typically include installing seat belts in one or two new school buses and evaluating their impact on safety, behavior and acceptance.

Private financial grants may be available for districts that conduct a pilot program.

Current Ohio school bus safety features are inadequate to fully protect children. Aiden Clark ,11, was killed in August during the Springfield bus crash. Countless other students are left injured and traumatized.

'I want my mom!' 911 calls reveal terror of fatal Springfield bus crash

Only three Ohio school districts currently have buses with lap-shoulder seat belts: Avon Lake, Hudson and Beachwood — not the 60% of Ohio school districts listed in a recent report from Gov. Mike DeWine Find the report at otso.ohio.gov/programs/school-bus-safety/welcome  on page 12 and 13.

Honest Abe is shaking head in disgust

When I was a child (I learned) President Abraham Lincoln had a team of rivals as cabinet secretaries to advise him.  Now that I am a seasoned citizen, it appears that if ex-President Donald Trump is elected he wants a team of "yes, sir" don’t-disagree people to advise him.

President Lincoln would shake his head in disgust.
