Pacific Surfliner, Metrolink to resume service through San Clemente

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink service are slated to return to full service next week with the reopening of the rail line through San Clemente, the Orange County Transportation Authority announced Tuesday.

The stretch of rail line in southern Orange County has been closed during construction of a 200-foot-long catchment wall to protect the train track. The work at Mariposa Point is expected to be finished this week.

The need for the emergency construction came after a landslide on a private hillside on Jan. 24.

Starting Monday, Pacific Surfliner trains will run to and from San Diego without a bus connection between Irvine and Oceanside. There will be 10 daily round trips between Los Angeles and San Diego. View full travel advisories on Amtrak.com.

Also beginning Monday, Metrolink will again run between San Clemente and Oceanside. View full service updates on Metrolink.com.

January’s landslide comes months after multiple landslides in San Clemente last year. In April and again in June of last year, landslides near the historic Casa Romantica caused temporary rail service closures.
