New owners plan to rebrand combination plant shop and cocktail bar in West Des Moines

Fans of plants and cocktails will have to find a new spot to drink and shop. Pots & Shots, the one-of-a-kind cocktail bar and plant store, closed on Monday in West Des Moines.

Owner Temeshia Bomato told fans on Facebook that she sold the business, which “will be rebranding before reopening with a similar concept.”

Bomato noted that operating a small business was hard. “Businesses are closing left and right every day — we are very fortunate to have found buyers who value what we've built together here,” she wrote on Facebook.

She said that she does have plans for “local collaborations, classes, pop-up workshops, and exclusive sales and events.”

Pots & Shots opened in 2021 after Bomato's houseplant collection started taking over an entire room in her home. She sold clippings of her rare plants and then decided to open a plant store and cocktail bar at 9500 University Ave., West Des Moines.

Bomato did not respond to an email requesting more information on the closure, but did write on Facebook that she plans to spend more time with her family. Those with gift cards can email potsandshotsiowa@gmail.com for a refund.
