Overnight burglary at Bergenfield jewelry store under investigation

Bergenfield police are investigating a burglary at a jewelry store in the borough early Monday morning.

The department received a report of an activated burglar alarm at Alpha Jewelers on South Washington Avenue at 3:32 a.m., Capt. William Duran said. Officers responding to the scene discovered signs of forced entry to the front door of the business but did not find anyone inside.

Several display cases were damaged in the burglary, but authorities are still working to determine the number of items that were stolen, Duran said. The total value of the missing items is also unknown.

The Bergen County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted Bergenfield police in responding to the scene. The burglary remains under investigation as of Monday afternoon.

"A division of Alpha Jewelers, Alpha Gold Buyers is a second-generation family-owned business based in Bergenfield," the jeweler's website says.
