Orrville's Little Miss Poppy shows support for veterans, represents American Legion Post

Rylie Spark is Little Miss Poppy 2024 at Orrville American Legion Post 282, Frank E. Cook.

She is a 10-year-old fourth grader at Orrville Middle School. Rylie is a member of Orrville Scout Pack 830 and a junior member of the Orrville American Legion. She enjoys participating in Tae Kwan Do, where she recently received her black belt.

When Rylie isn’t hanging out and listening to her 91-year-old Papa’s Korean War veteran stories. she is raising awareness in the Awareness 22 Suicide Prevention Program for veterans. In 2023, Rylie donated $350 in earnings from Rylie’s Lemonade Stand during the Wayne County Lemonade Days. She also volunteers to place wreaths for Christmas and flags for Memorial Day, at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Rylie will be at Poppy Days at Orrville Buehler’s 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 3, or Saturday, May 4, helping to distribute poppies for National Poppy Day, celebrated May 24, to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn the nation’s uniform.

Ryle will continue her Poppy Girl duties by participating in Memorial Day ceremonies on May 27.

The Memorial Day procession will begin at 9 a.m. at the Orrville American Legion, where it will continue West on West Market Street and north on Crown Hill Road, concluding at the Crown Hill Cemetery with a ceremony.

The Orrville ALA and members of Post 282, District 10, will distribute Poppy Cans throughout the community to collect donations for local veterans. Business with Poppy Cans will be Mrs. J’s, Dravenstott’s, Michael’s Bakery, Orrville VFW, Orrville American Legion, Treasurers & Time, Main Street Pharmacy and more. Proceeds help veterans, and their families.
