One rescued, injured from Black Creek Township blaze

BLACK CREEK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Bystanders of a house fire are being hailed heroes after trying to rescue the victim from the burning home.

Nuremberg Weston Fire Company Chief Joe Lescowitch told 28/22 News Reporter Jason LiVecchi fire crews from Sugarloaf Township, Hazle Township, Beaver Valley, Nuremberg Weston, and others were dispatched at 5:40 p.m. to a fully involved structure fire at the 1800 block of Tomhicken Road in Black Creek Township with a reported entrapment.

“We were dispatched to a fully alarm structure fire at 5:40 p.m. with entrapment. Upon arrival, the individual that was trapped was removed,” said Chief Lescowitch.

After arriving at the fire in Black Creek, firefighters learned people already ran inside to rescue one person from the burning building.

“Who were the people who ran inside?” LiVecchi asked.

“Two neighbors,” Chief Lescowitch replied.

The fire destroyed the building and the multiple different fire departments had the fire under control in under 30 minutes.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but due to the cloud cover and the snowfall, it couldn’t make a safe landing.

The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to Chief Lescowitch.

“Put a hit on it locked down in about 20 to 25 minutes. We got about two hours overall yet then we should be backing it in,” Chief Lescowitch added.

Authorities say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
