One more beautiful Utah day before the week ends with rain

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Wednesday, Utah! Another gorgeous day is in store for us and today will be the warmest day of the week for some.

The bottom line? One more day of beautiful above-average temperatures before a cold front moves in, dropping temperatures and bringing rain.

The weather will be reminiscent of what we saw yesterday. Clear blue skies are expected for the bulk of the day with a mix of thinner high-altitude clouds later in the evening. Daytime highs today are running about 10° above seasonal averages. That means most will top out in the 70s, while higher elevations reach the mid to upper 60s, and warm spots down south climb into the mid to upper 80s. With a southerly flow in place, we could see Salt Lake get as warm as 80° today.

Today marks the last day of the warming trend we’ve enjoyed over the past few days and it starts to take a downward turn by tomorrow. A cold front is moving into the neighborhood on Thursday morning which will drop temperatures back to seasonal norms. That means upper 60s for most, low 60s for high country, and mid 70s for warm spots like St. George. The cold front brings more than just declining temperatures, it also will be pulling Pacific moisture inland, allowing for wet weather.

PGA TOUR to return to Utah after 60 years, coming to Black Desert Resort

Some parts of northern Utah have a chance for thunderstorms today, but tomorrow the risk expands to engulf the entire Beehive State. Thunderstorms will rumble across Utah on Thursday as the cold front pushes through. On the back side of the front, we will see scattered showers. St. George will escape this round of wet weather, but another system is trailing just behind it which will impact the whole state, including St. George. While St. George dries out within a day, soggy conditions hold onto most of the state through Saturday. This will be a valley rain and mountain snow setup with snow levels remaining above 7,000 ft. for the most part.

There is a silver lining to incoming wet weather for allergy sufferers. We’ve had a prolonged period of high pollen counts over the last couple of weeks, but wet weather can help clean out the air and reset pollen levels. The pollen count is forecasted to drop from high or extreme to a more manageable medium level on Friday.

We’ll keep tracking the trajectory of the incoming storms and give you the latest developments. Until then enjoy the nice weather and stay up-to-date on the latest in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
