One Year Later: A look back at the 2023 Troup County tornados

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — A year ago on March 26, 2023, a tornado blew through west Georgia.

Troup County particularly felt the impact with report of injuries, destroyed homes and downed trees. A state of emergency was issued due to the storm.

Five people were sustained non-life-threatening injuries. In total, between 80 to 100 structures were damaged in the area. Out of those, about 30 to 40 were completely destroyed.

A large amount of damage was concentrated to the area of West Point Road, which temporarily closed following the storm.

The tornado even led to the escape of two tigers from Wild Animal Safari. Officials said the tigers were tranquilized and re-captured.
