In One Ear: 'Literally a miracle'

Michael Bonome’s cabin cruiser is stuck in the sand in Ocean Park, Washington, after running aground a few weeks ago, MSN reported.

Bonome had run the boat on lakes and rivers, so he thought he’d give the ocean a try. When the “waves were getting pretty big and scary,” he tried to head for the shore — but the boat started overheating, and then the engine shut down.

While on the way to drop the anchor, he realized the dog had fallen overboard. “An even bigger wave came and hit me,” he recalled. “Knocked me in. Now, I’m in there swimming for my life.” Luckily, he was able to grab onto the boat and ride it to the beach.

He went into the cabin to change clothes and, upon emerging, found quite a surprise. An ambulance had been summoned (just in case), someone rescued his dog and people were picking up loose items from his boat. “With the power of love from God,” he said, “there was a community of people here waiting to help me. I couldn’t believe it ... the love that is outpouring is overwhelming.”

So far, the tides haven’t come close enough to get the boat back into the water. Eventually, he may have to get a crane to help. For now, he’s living on the boat, so it won’t appear to be abandoned. And, a GoFundMe has been set up for him, “Help get Michael’s boat off the beach!” at bit.ly/MBboat.

Despite the stranded boat, Bonome is upbeat and grateful. “Nobody’s hurt,” he observed. “My dog is alive. It’s literally a miracle.” (Photo: GoFundMe)
