Two arrested after man fatally shot at Hammond apartment complex

HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the fatal shooting of another man at a Hammond apartment complex.

On Tuesday, April 23, the TPSO reported that 28-year-old Malcolm Toney had been shot at the Tangi Village Apartments on Quick Boulevard around 11:30 a.m.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Following an investigation, TPSO investigators said they identified 21-year-old Tyrell Brister and 39-year-old Monica Haynes as suspects.

Brister was arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault by drive-by, home invasion, simple criminal damage to property, illegal discharge of a weapon and second-degree battery.

TPSO officials said Haynes was arrested and faces charges of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, accessory after the fact to aggravated battery, accessory after the fact to aggravated assault by drive-by and obstruction of justice.
