Oklahoma governor signs bill into law that requires schools to teach cursive writing

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt signed a bill requiring schools to teach students cursive handwriting into law on April 22.

The law states that beginning in the 2024-25 school year, school districts and charter schools will teach cursive handwriting in third through fifth grades.

Oklahoma bill could make cursive lessons required in schools

The law will be effective July 1.

The bill was created by State Rep. Jason Lowe (D-Oklahoma City) and State Sen. Kevin Matthews (D-Tulsa) and was approved with bipartisan support.
