OKCFD battle apartment fire in NW OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to an apartment fire near Northwest 16th Street and North Rockwell Ave. Heavy smoke and visible flames were seen coming from the structure.

Crews have put the fire out, but aren’t sure how it started.

“When we got here, we had heavy fire, smoke showing from a downstairs apartment extending into the upstairs apartment and eventually made its way into the attic,” Cpt. Lamont Smith with OKCFD said.

He adds that crews would stay on scene a couple more hours to make sure there aren’t any hot spots or any loose structure that could collapse.

“We had fire spread affect about six units,” Cpt. Smith said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
