WASHINGTON − President Joe Biden is touting his health care policy record with the help of some special guests: former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Biden campaign is launching a week of events in eight battleground states ahead of the Affordable Care Act anniversary as the president vies for his second term in the White House. Obama and Pelosi, D-Calif., will join the president on a national organizing call Saturday to mobilize supporters around protecting the ACA.

“Just as he always has, President Obama looks forward to supporting Democrats up and down the ballot next fall, and no race has bigger stakes than President Biden’s re-election," Obama senior advisor Eric Schultz said in a statement.

This weekend marks the 14th anniversary of the ACA's passage, which provides protections and subsidies to make health care more affordable and policies easy to understand.

Biden's Republican challenger, former President Donald Trump, has campaigned on repealing and replacing the ACA − a stance he has carried since he was in the White House. Congressional Republicans failed in 2017 to overhaul the healthcare plan under Trump's administration.

2023 poll from the nonpartisan health research organization KFF suggests Biden could see a boost among voters based on Trump's threat to repeal the bill.

The Biden campaign announced 20 in-person events throughout the week with local elected officials and individuals impacted by the ACA to highlight the stakes around affordable health care. The campaign will also include advertising and social media content related to Biden's accomplishments lowering the costs of healthcare.

A record number of Americans enrolled in the ACA for 2024, the Biden administration announced earlier this year. It marked the third consecutive year enrollment has set a record.
