National Weather Service confirms one tornado in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The National Weather Service has confirmed one tornado in Chesterfield from Monday’s St. Louis-area storms.

More tornado designations are possible in Missouri after two rounds of tornado-warned storms, though NWS teams have wrapped up damage surveys in Chesterfield. Survey teams were also deployed to analyze storm impacts in Bonne Terre, Missouri.

The National Weather Service reports that an EF0 tornado struck Chesterfield with peak winds of 85 mph. This happened just north of I-64 around 6:30 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported from this tornado.

FOX 2 has learned of some notable damage to homes in Chesterfield, including damaged roofs and toppled trees. SkyFOX showed more views of damages Tuesday morning.

NWS warned of tornadoes in two recent rounds of storms in the St. Louis region, the first around early evening hours Monday and another overnight past midnight Tuesday. Storms were tornado-warned in Chesterfield during the 6 p.m. hour, while tornadoes were warned during the 1 a.m. hour near Bonne Terre.

NWS crews are working to confirm whether a tornado hit both cities or nearby areas. Monday’s storms also brought heavy rainfall and various flash flooding concerns around the St. Louis area.
