Non-profit brings to light assault survivor’s stories through clothes

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this non-profit organization is bringing assault survivor’s story to the front.

The Center Against Sexual and Family Violence (CASFV) will be hosting an exhibit titled “What Were You Wearing?” showing the community that assault can happen to anyone, regardless of attire, according to the CASFV.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at Joe Vinny and Bronsons Bohemian Cafe, located at 824 North Piedras Street.

“The ‘What Were You Wearing?’ exhibit is a crucial conversation starter during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. By focusing on the survivor’s stories and the normalcy of the clothing worn, we hope to shift the blame away from victims and towards the perpetrators,” said associate director of Sexual Assault Services at CASVF, Angel Carroll.

If you or someone you know needs help, the 24-Hour Crisis Hopeline is available at (915) 593-7300 or 1-800-727-0511.
