No good deed is too great or too small for Crystal Hirschi

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Remarkable Women celebrates outstanding local women making a difference in the community. One of those women is Crystal Hirschi who is described as someone who “can’t sit still.”

Hirschi is always on a mission to help someone wherever she can whether it’s at home or around the world. She credits surrounding herself with kind-hearted and compassionate people to make it happen.

No good deed is too great or too small for Hirschi. Where she sees a need, her heart guides her mind and hands to fill it.

“Both of my parents always told me, ‘Don’t complain about something, but find a solution.’ so I’ve kind of lived my whole life like that,” Hirschi said.

She credits her dad’s free spirit and her mom’s serving heart for her natural desire to help people. But when her father died of colon cancer at just 56, Hirschi said she made a deeper commitment to change lives for the better.

“I’ve always felt that if I can change one life then I’ve changed generations cause that one life will change their trajectory.”

Hirschi knows she can’t do it alone. She said she learned the real value of community during humanitarian aid trips to third-world countries.

“I realized poverty comes in different ways and sometimes poverty isn’t the lack of finances; it’s the lack of support. It really just touched my heart.”

At home, she and her husband, Chad, embrace every chance to support the community of North Las Vegas, where they’ve grown their successful company — Hirschi Masonry — and raised their three children who are marrying and starting their own families.

“The reality is when you go and you give and serve others what you receive in return is a softer, kinder heart.” Chad Hirschi said. “It opens you up to be more understanding and in return, you become a more compassionate person.”

Helping the homeless, improving schools, and raising money to fight cancer are just a few of the challenges Hirschi tackles. She created a company team — Hirschi Helping Hands — to serve up even more kindness and compassion. The team started a drive for hair care products for local residents.

“You know we just want to take any and every opportunity we can to make the community a better place,” she said.

Hirschi chairs the North Las Vegas Education Advisory Committee and she’s an advocate for a global non-profit called Sole Hope which makes shoes to protect the feet of Ugandan children from parasitic sand fleas.

“I go around all of Nevada to schools and churches, youth groups, even businesses … and I educate them about what the problem is in Uganda, Africa and then we cut out shoe pieces and we send them to those in Uganda.”

Given all of her successes, Hirschi said being a mom is still her greatest achievement but there is so much more she wants to accomplish.

I just want to help more in the schools, I want to help more with the homeless population, I want to help more with human trafficking awareness. I have lots of goals. The sky is the limit.”

No doubt Crystal Hirschi will keep giving.

On Tuesday, April 2, 8 News Now will reveal which of the four finalists will be Las Vegas’ Remarkable Woman winner. The winner will then compete with other Remarkable Women from around the country for National Remarkable Woman of the Year.
