Nikki Haley said that she will be voting for Donald Trump in November, ending speculation since she ended her presidential campaign.

“I will be voting for Trump,” she said at an event at the Hudson Institute today.

In a Q&A session after giving a speech, Haley told attendees that Trump “has not been perfect” on foreign policy and debt, among other things, but Biden “has been a catastrophe.”

Haley has posted criticism of Biden on social media since she dropped out of the presidential race in March. Back then, she said that it was up to Trump to “earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support” his presidential bid.

She continued to echo that plea in her remarks today. That is potentially significant, as she has continued to draw a significant share of support in the remaining primaries, even though she has been out of the race for some time. She drew almost 22% of the votes in the Maryland Republican primary last week.

Haley had remained in the presidential race through Super Tuesday, well after it was clear that she had just a slim chance of capturing the nomination. But in the final weeks of the race, she had become increasingly critical of Trump, questioning his fitness for office and calling him out as “completely unhinged” after he mocked her husband, who has been deployed in Africa as part of Army National Guard service. She also said that Trump was “not qualified” to be president.

Haley’s support for Trump could serve as a permissive signal to moderates who may have misgivings about returning him to office. She often attacked him for the “chaos” that followed him.

That said, Trump has batted down a report that Haley was under consideration as a potential running mate.
