NEPA MMA reopening in Kingston after fire

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It’s been more than two months since a fierce fire destroyed a Luzerne County Mixed Martial Arts studio. On Monday, the owner of the small business is gearing up to reopen its doors at a new location.

Big plans are in the works for NEPA Mixed Martial Arts that’s bouncing back bigger and better than ever.

Flames tore through NEPA Mixed Martial Arts in Edwardsville back in February. Owner Kyle Reed watched his business and everything inside burn to the ground as fire departments from across the Wyoming Valley responded.

“Over these eight, nine weeks, a lot has been challenged. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, whatever way you want to look at it, it has been a challenge to overcome,” Reed said.

Reed has found a new home for NEPA Mixed Martial Arts on Eley Street in Kingston that has more than 10,000 square feet of space.

In the face of adversity, getting all of this done in a short amount of time was his goal.

“I want to prove that everyone that supported us, backed us, defended us, whatever way it was, that it was not a lost cause, it was for the greater, and hopefully in 13 days NEPA mixed martial arts will be open and rocking and rolling like we never left,” Reed explained.

Reed has been temporarily operating out of NEPA Crossfit in Wilkes-Barre.

“Those guys have been absolutely fantastic, they immediately opened the doors to us the day after the fire, and there were no questions. They immediately gave us a spot, gave us a home, and kept our dream alive,” Reed continued.

Reed is thankful for the support of the community which he says helped him through.

“I wear their support, their commitment, their dedication to me on my back, around my front as my shield. And I will keep moving forward just for the support that they gave me,” said Reed

NEPA MMA is hosting a two-day grand re-opening event the first weekend of May.
