LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Nearly 30 animals were saved from a hoarding situation in Pahrump.

Szalay described the mess her rescue and animal control found when they arrived at the residence.

“The trash was piled 4 feet high; The poop was 4 inches thick and there were large bags of dog food that had been ripped open and that’s how the dogs were fed,” she said.

The owner of the home, an elderly woman who recently had a stroke was sent to the hospital. Her family who lives out of state, not realizing the poor and unsanitary conditions she and her animals were living in.

“It was horrendous,” Szalay said.

She shared that the rescue in addition to Pahrump Animal Control had to wear hazmat gear because the smell was so overwhelming. With the outside of the property just as bad.

“There were a few dogs tethered in the backyard and the ground was covered in glass. Out of the animals saved, the majority were dogs and a couple of cats.

“A Path 4 Paws” foster, Larry Mann taking care of one of the dogs rescued, Magoo, who they believe is blind.

“He does the frozen Superman thing where he’s super rigid like he has never been picked up before. I think he has been nipped at a little bit and probably bullied in the hoarding situation,” she added.

Szalay said it’s going to be a long road to recovery for these animals, but is certain their forever homes are right around the corner.

“We are sure that these dogs have never seen a vet so it’s going to be a long process, but once we get them healthy they will all be available for adoption,” she shared.

As for the woman who owns the home, she is currently in the hospital. No word on whether any arrests have been made.
