NCIS prequel casts Big Sky star as classic character

NCIS: Origins has found a young version of an iconic character.
The upcoming show will star The White Lotus's Austin Stowell in a prequel exploring the early years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the NCIS agent originally played by Mark Harmon.
Deadline reports that Kyle Schmid will be joining NCIS: Origins to play Special Agent-in-Charge Mike Franks, the legendary mentor of Gibbs when he was just a 'probie'.
Various NCIS episodes have explored the at-times rocky past between Gibbs and Franks, decades before Gibbs would take control of his own squad.
Franks' death at the hands of the infamous Port-to-Port Killer was a pivotal moment in the original NCIS series. Muse Watson has previously played Franks both in flashback and present days scenes.
His successor, Kyle Schmid, has starred in the remake of Being Human and had a recurring role in Big Sky as the volatile John Wayne Kleinsasser.

CBS has confirmed that it will be re-teaming with Mark Harmon for NCIS: Origins — which Harmon will executive produce and narrate. His son Sean Harmon will produce the series as well.
"The character of Gibbs has been an important part of my life for 20 years, both in watching my father craft the role and previously having the honor to play young Gibbs myself," executive producer Sean Harmon has said.
"I always felt there was a tale worth telling about his earlier years, so I am thrilled to be stepping into a producing role alongside Gina, David and my dad as we tell this story and reveal a new side of this beloved character."
Prior to the casting of the young Mike Franks, Mariel Molino joined NCIS: Origins as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, a brand new character who develops a spark with Gibbs.
It has also been announced that the main NCIS series will be celebrate its 1,00th episode with a crossover event featuring special agents from various spin-offs.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US. Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
