NCIS: Origins has added more stars to its roster, with the younger version of a former character being cast.

The prequel series will focus on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early days as an NCIS agent at the Camp Pendleton office, with the younger versions of several characters making an appearance.

As per Deadline, Diany Rodriguez is the latest star to be cast as a former character, with the star fulfilling the role of a young Vera Strickland, a special agent who was originally played by Roma Maffia in ‘Under the Radar’, the third episode of the 11th season.

Strickland is described as a “no-nonsense, sharp-witted Brooklynite who’s tough as nails and never minces words. She’s spent her entire career being underestimated by misogynistic morons (as she calls them), but if it’s a fight those good ol’ boys are looking for, then it’s a fight they’re going to get.”

In addition to Rodriguez, Tyla Abercrumbie has also joined the cast as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo, who is described as a “product of her time and the lifeblood of the Camp Pendleton office.

“With all the acronyms floating around the agency, this mama bear has wryly dubbed herself ‘HSIC’: Head Secretary in Charge. If you want to know where the bodies are buried, Mary Jo’s the one to ask.”

The pair join the previously announced trio of Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino and Kyle Schmid, who will play Gibbs, Lala Dominguez and Mike Franks respectively. Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs on the original NCIS show, will return for the prequel as a narrator.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing this new chapter to life along with Mark and Sean Harmon,” said co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North following the announcement of the show (via TVLine). “This really is the making of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And even the most dedicated NCIS fans will discover that they don’t know the whole story.”
