Natural Bridge Zoo to reopen Memorial Day weekend under new ownership

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Natural Bridge Zoo has announced that it is now under new ownership and is getting ready to open its doors.

On May 23, the Natural Bridge Zoo announced on social media that it will open for the 2024 season on May 25, over the Memorial Day weekend.

This comes after authorities raided the zoo and seized 100 animals in December of 2023, for accusations of animal cruelty. During the intense court battle in Rockbridge County, an undercover agent testified the zoo had poor security, and several dead animals and animal parts were discovered.

In March of 2024, the jury reached a verdict and 71 animals were returned to state custody and 29 returned to the zoo. The Natural Bridge Zoo says Asha the elephant has been retired to a sanctuary.
