Representative Emerita Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to publish a new book this year.

The congresswoman, 84, will release a new book entitled The Art of Power in August 2024, publisher Simon & Schuster announced on Thursday, April 18. The volume will detail Pelosi’s prominent political career, which spans from her election as the 52nd Speaker of the House in 2007 — and serving as the first woman Speaker for eight years — to her current role as the representative for California’s 11th District.

The Art of Power
, per a statement shared with PEOPLE, shares Pelosi’s perspective on what it takes to make history. Pelosi did so herself when she became the first woman to be chosen to lead a party in Congress in 2003, and later throughout her tenure as Speaker of the House (Pelosi held the role twice). She stepped down as Speaker in 2023, but announced plans for reelection as the Democratic House leader in 2024.

Throughout her tenure as Speaker of the House, Pelosi spearheaded efforts on a variety of issues, including attempting to save the U.S. economy in 2008 and leading the fight for transforming health care. Pelosi famously pushed crucial legislation through Congress, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Acts, and led efforts to create and enact the American Rescue Plan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pelosi will also reflect on key moments throughout her career, including the Jan. 6 2021 insurrection. The congresswoman will describe her firsthand experiences on that day, including how she fought to get the National Guard to the Capitol, and how she later directed efforts for the Jan. 6 investigations.

Pelosi will also write of the harrowing 2022 invasion of her San Francisco home, and its aftermath and effects on her family. Pelosi's husband, Paul, was injured by an assailant during the invasion.
